What Are Gynecologic Cancers
According to the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (www.thegcf.org) every
hour, 10 women are diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer. Gynecologic cancers
are those cancers that occur in women's reproductive systems. They include
endometrial (uterine), vaginal, ovarian and cervical cancers.
Endometrial (the lining of the uterus) cancer, sometimes referred to as
uterine cancer, is the most common form of those cancers affecting a woman's
reproductive system. Every 15 minutes a woman is diagnosed with endometrial
cancer. That's almost 100 women per day!
Women of all ages are encouraged to develop a dialogue with their doctor
and to report any of the following to them immediately upon their onset:
- Unusual bleeding
- Frequent bleeding
- Clots or "floods"
- Bloating
- Indigestion
Of course, early detection is paramount and can help
in taking action towards future prevention and treatment. Women are encouraged
to lead a healthy life style and to adhere to a schedule of examinations.
